International flights suspended until May 8: COVID19 task force

MANILA- International flights to and from the Philippines will remain suspended until Friday, May 8, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Government's task force spearheading response to the COVID-19 crisis has approved the recommendation to suspend international flights until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.The Philippines on Sunday suspended all inbound commercial flights in 9 of its airports namely Manila , Davao, Clark, Iloilo, Mactan-Cebu, Zamboanga, Kalibo, Laoag, and Puerto Princesa.

Pandemic policy chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the moratorium on flights would allow the government to upgrade coronavirus testing and screening protocols "to adequately deal with the growing number of repatriates and COVID-19 cases in the Philippines." The Philippines had been flying back to the country Filipinos from overseas who lost their jobs amid the pandemic or chose to come home.
