THE Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines recently announced its aim to engage in the global intellectual property community to grow intellectual property filings by up to 10 percent this year.
The IPOPHL chief noted that the agency is setting an “internal” target of 10 percent despite generating the “usual” 4-percent to 5-percent growth in filings per year. For this year, Barba said the IPOPHL is seeing an improvement in the IP filings compared to the volume booked in 2020 or at the start of the pandemic, when he said filings took a dive by 20 percent.
“Starting this year, we plan to join the missions of the BOI because IP is related to possible investments in the Philippines,” Barba said.
