The bobcat, named Bobby by residents in Calgary\u0027s Chaparral neighbourhood, was first spotted limping with a foothold trap.
On Wednesday afternoon, Chaparral resident Trevor Pinkster said his neighbour rang his doorbell around noon to tell him that the injured Bobby was close.
“Everyone’s quite upset … Who on earth would put such a barbaric trap out? I don’t know what their intent was, if it was for the bobcats, but I got two young kids, a three- and a five-year-old. I’ve got two dogs. If someone’s laying traps around, that’s what’s dangerous and frustrating,” he said. “We did attend and attempt to set live traps to capture it, based on that first sighting that we were aware of, but it was unsuccessful, and we weren’t able to capture it ,” he said. “It was very mobile, and was able to cover quite a bit of ground still despite the injury.
