Newly-minted National Master Michael Jan Stephen Inigo is on a roll.
Fresh from a second place finish in the juniors division of the 2023 Philippine National Amateur Championships Grand Finals held in Tagaytay City on October 6-8 where he secured his national master title, Inigo dominated his older rivals at the Bayawan City Mayor's Cup 25-under rapid chess tournament in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental last Saturday, October 14.
Not to be outdone, 11-year-old Joriel James Yap played beyond his years and even bested opponents twice his age in an under-25 rapid chess tournament in Davao City last weekend.Yap, an early favorite for the under-13 crown of the coming Batang Pinoy chess competition, ended up tied for third place in the rapid tournament.'Those were amazing results by Inigo and Yap.
