MANILA, Philippines — The Marcos administration ramped up its infrastructure spending in August by 66 percent to P122 billion largely to fund road projects, according to the Department of Budget and Management .

Significant disbursements were also noted for the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health and direct payments made by development partners for the rail transport projects of the Department of Transportation. The direct payments made by foreign creditors of the DOTr for their foreign-assisted rail transport projects also contributed to the higher disbursement as of end-August.

An increase in government spending was similarly noted in subsidy support to government corporations which went up to P18.9 billion, mainly for the health and housing sectors. Tax expenditures also decreased to P2.1 billion due to lower documentary stamp taxes on government securities while net lending slid to P1 billion amid repayment of government advances by the Home Guaranty Corp.
