JAKARTA: Indonesia's election commission announced on Monday the official candidates for next year's presidential vote when the world's third largest democracy is due to pick a successor to incumbent leader Joko Widodo.

JAKARTA: Indonesia's election commission announced on Monday the official candidates for next year's presidential vote when the world's third largest democracy is due to pick a successor to incumbent leader Joko Widodo.The February election will see three contenders vying for the Muslim-majority country's top office, with Defense Minister and former special forces general Prabowo Subianto battling former governors Ganjar Pranowo of Central Java and Anies Baswedan of Jakarta.

Subianto, 72, is increasing his margin of popularity over closest rival Pranowo, a poll published by Indikator Politik Indonesia showed on Sunday.The third-time presidential candidate is now favored by 39.7 percent of voters to 30 percent for Pranowo, the poll showed, compared to 36.1 to 33.7 last month.
