In pushing for the inclusion of mental health disorders under the coverage of PhilHealth, Villar cited the Mental Health Strategic Plan 2019-2023 of the Philippine Council for Mental Health showing that 3.3 percent of the country’s population, or around 3.3 million Filipinos, live with depression, with a suicide mortality rate pegged at 3.2 per 100,000 population.
“This bill also addresses the rising costs of mental health treatment by mandating an appropriate increase in PhilHealth’s benefit package taking into consideration the current costs in medical services,” she said.
