Imee pushes for NIR budget

SEN. Imee Marcos is pushing for a proper budget for the newly created Negros Island Region in 2025.Marcos, who was in Bacolod City on Friday, Feb. 21, questioned why the NIR was not included in the 2025 national budget.“I don’t understand why there’s no budget for the NIR. I kept telling them that we should align an item there for the operation of the NIR,” she said.She added that it is difficult to get funds from Western Visayas and Central Visayas for the operation of various offices.

Teodora Sumagaysay, assistant regional director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government NIR, earlier said the IRR has already been published, signaling the start of operations for various offices.“We are expecting the publication of the IRR of RA 12000 in the Official Gazette, and it will give us full authority to establish regional offices,” Sumagaysay said.Moreover, Negros Occidental Fifth District Rep.
