International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas City topped the 1st Marinduque National Chess Championship that ended on Sunday, March 10, at the Marinduque Convention Center in Boac, Marinduque.The 18-year-old Concio tallied 6.5 points in seven rounds to rule the Open division and pocket the P50,000 top purse.
0 points and edged Jonathan Jota of Manila in the tie-break to claim second place honors and the P30,000 cash prize.Jota settled for third place and pocketed P20,000.Finishing with 5.5 points apiece were IM Daniel Quizon, IM Ricardo de Guzman, IM Angelo Young and IM Barlo Nadera.Quizon won P10,000, De Guzman got P7,000, Young received P5,000 while Nadera pocketed P3,000 after the tie-break was applied.Another player from Dasmariñas City, meanwhile, dominated the Kiddies division.
