Iloilo City is the latest Philippine metropolis to join the list of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), thanks to its gastronomic offerings.
UNESCO on Tuesday said the country's"food haven" is now among the 350 cities in the network representing various creative fields: crafts and folk art, design, film, gastronomy, literature, media arts, and music.
"I share this award with the Ilonggos, like me, who love to cook our Ilonggo Food. Now, we can be proud to say Ilonggo cuisine is taking the stage in the international gastronomy scene," said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a statement on Wednesday.
