— The Iloilo City government will soon ink a sisterhood agreement with Quanzhou City in China.
“We have to follow through with Iloilo City-Quanzhou sisterhood. We initiate the groundworks for activities such as student exchanges, business-to-business meetings, and arts forum,” said Salvador Sarabia Jr., former tourism undersecretary who is now the director of the Meetings, Incentive Travels, Conventions, and Exhibitions Center in this city.
Sarabia recently represented Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas at the 4th Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival in Quanzhou last November after the city government was invited by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and Fujian Provincial People’s Government. “The private sector and other public institutions may be encouraged to collaborate. Written correspondences should be followed by more formal exploratory talks by leaders of city government and business groups,” Sarabia said.
“There should be closer coordination with Quanzhou City for the identification of mutually desired activities and organizations with time frame and expectations. Further, joint efforts can be done in also exploring possible areas or sectors upon which sisterhood is to be anchored on,” Sarabia added.
