ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry Treñas here is under fire for flip-flopping statements on cancellation of classes due to rainy weather enhanced by tropical storm “Enteng” on Monday, September 2.Treñas issued three separate and contradicting statements since Sunday night until he came up with an announcement cancelling classes on all levels before 11 a.m. on Monday.
He then doubled down on his claim that there will be no cancellation of classes in a press conference on Monday, September 1. “We recommend the suspension of face-to-face classes this afternoon in all levels in both public and private educational institutions,” Treñas announced on his official Facebook page less than two hours after the press conference. Some parents of young students had to get out of their jobs just to pick up their children.
Others took to social media to criticize the flip-flopping statements that put the safety of children at risk. “Kon ga consider kamo safety, tani kagab-i pa! Halin pa kagab-i hulat namon nga mga parents kay kita ta man sa forecast nga maulan gid today! Second time na ni! ,” said Khen Urbina Gulmatico.
