Ilocos Sur Gov. Jerry Singson has declared the suspension of classes in private and public schools in all levels and work in public offices on Monday as northern Luzon braced for Super Typhoon BettyPH. | PDI

Local government units have also been directed to monitor their areas closely and to take necessary measures to protect residents and properties.

If evacuation becomes necessary, Singson encouraged the public to adhere to minimum public health standards and cooperate with authorities. In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration reported that Super Typhoon Betty was located 1,170 km east of Central Luzon.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over the eastern portion of Cagayan, including Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Santa Teresita, Buguey, as well as Babuyan and Camiguin Islands.
