AROUND P42.7 million worth of agricultural equipment and inputs were distributed to farmers in Ilocos Sur to boost the production of vegetables and other crops.
Distributed by the Department of Agri culture-Regional Field Office 1 that has jurisdiction over the Ilocos Region are hand tractors, harvesters, irrigation pumps, certified seeds and garden tools. These were distributed under the DA's Gulayan sa Paaralan Program.DA-RFO1 Officer in Charge Executive Director John Pascual said the distribution of the farm equipment was held at the auction market in Candon, Ilocos Sur , on September 21, in partnership with key officials in Ilocos Sur .
The agricultural equipment and inputs distributed were funded by DA banner programs such as the High Value Crops Development Program, National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program, Special Area for Agricultural Development Program, Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture, and the initiatives for rice and corn.Singson-Meehan said that they are ready to cooperate with the DA in improving the agricultural output of Ilocos Sur.
