THE average price of electricity increased in April due to a surge in demand, the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines Inc. said on Sunday.The operator of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market said the average price for the month was P6.90 per kilowatt hour , up by 33 percent from P5.19 per kWh from March, driven by the increase in daily electricity demand in April or an average of 14,375 megawatts from 13,165 MW in March.
For electricity prices for each region, Luzon's electricity prices went up to an average of P6.63 per kWh in April from P5.04 per kWh in March. For the Visayas, the average went up to P8.73 per kWh from P6.26 per kWh month-on-month. Mindanao's average electricity prices increased to P6.43 per kWh in April from P4.56 per kWh in March.Moreover, IEMOP recorded 19.68 percent of the trading intervals for April as subjected to the secondary price cap, compared to last month's 7.
