‘I will keep playing until that happens’: Khawaja opens up on Test future

Australian opener Usman Khawaja will be 39 when the next Ashes series wraps up in January 2026, but the Queenslander hasn’t ruled out another Test campaign against the old enemy.

The 36-year-old was the leading run-scorer of the recent Ashes campaign in England, finishing with 496 runs at 49.60, including a match-winning century in the first Test at Edgbaston. “I have had so many people come up to me and tell me how good the Test series was … cricket definitely won,” Khawaja told reporters while promoting the Play Cricket Week initiative in Brisbane on Saturday.

“We still would have loved to have won, but we have now retained four Ashes in a row … the last time England won in Australia was 2010/11, when I debuted.
