The Top 10 finalists for the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year have been announced, and for the first time ever, a Korean car has made it to the list.
The all-electric Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s first purpose-built EV has been selected among the 10 best cars . It, along with the 10 others in this list, beat out 48 potential candidates for the Japanese auto industry’s highest honor. In February of this year, Hyundai entered the Japanese market by offering smart, sustainable automobiles with zero emissions. Currently, the brand only offers the Ioniq 5 EV and the Nexo Fuel Cell Vehicle .
Now celebrating its 43rd year, Japan Car of the Year was created with the aim of advancing Japan’s motorization and to inform consumers of the latest models and technologies. The award is operated by the Japan Car of the Year Executive Committee and the selection to be made among the vehicles released in the Japanese domestic car market from November 1 of the previous year to October 31 of the current year.
