This was how Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III assessed President Duterte’s statement that he had ordered Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to do whatever it takes to procure equipment and supplies to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease .“I have no idea on what’s in the President’s mind. All I know is that he is President and the buck stops with him,” Sotto said.
Sotto was referring to allegations of the overpriced medical supplies purchased when the COVID-19 began to stalk the country, forcing the Duterte administration to order a lockdown in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon.“The President instructed his DOH secretary to procure medical supplies in an expeditious manner; never mind if the price is higher than what prevails in the market,” he said.
“Taking the cue, he doubled the price. For that, he stays as health secretary. Holy crap!” Lacson, chairman of the Senate national defense and security committee, added.
