The failure of three Liberal Party members to face an inquiry showed “astonishing disregard” for democracy, an inquiry has found
that Jean-Claude Perrottet and Liberal state executive member Christian Ellis asked him for money to fund a branch operation to unseat Scott Morrison’s right-hand man Alex Hawke from his federal electorate.
The draft report was scathing of the trio’s failure to give evidence, saying they took steps to deliberately avoid attempts by parliamentary staff and professional process servers to issue a summons, and showed “blatant disregard” for processes.Process servers traversed almost 2000 kilometres, travelling to rural properties, pubs and clubs. One spent more than 17 hours around Deniliquin in the state’s south-west.
