House to probe alleged violation of WPS fishers' rights

MANILA, Philippines — A committee at the House of Representatives will look into the alleged violation of the rights of fishermen of Bataan, Pangasinan, and Zambales who depend on the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

MANILA, Philippines — A committee at the House of Representatives will look into the alleged violation of the rights of fishermen of Bataan, Pangasinan, and Zambales who depend on the West Philippine Sea .During the continuation of the committee's investigation into the drug war deaths, Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. read a letter bringing the fishermen's problem to the committee's attention.

, we in the Peoples Development Institute and the Bigkis ng Mangingisda Federation would like to draw your attention and that of the Committee on Human Rights... to another aspect of China's activities that is their serious impact on the human rights and the right to food of our fisherfolk', the letter stated.The letter said that the fishermen faced an 'increasingly difficult' condition after China in 2012 'seized control' of Bajo de Masinloc .
