House thanks senators for allowing congressmen’s initiative to waive Phase 4 clinical trial for COVID-19 drugs
Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said members of the bicameral conference committee that consolidated the Senate and House versions of the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act has adopted the Lower House initiative to set aside the Phase IV trial requirement for COVID 19 drugs and vaccines.
“Some of our colleagues in the Lower House prayed that our honorable senators will be able to realize the noble objectives of the House proposal and support it. We are happy that the senators did,” said Fernandez. “We appreciate the swift approval of the Bicameral Conference Committee. Sa panahon ngayon, talagang dapat handa na tayo sa bigger challenge na dala ng New Normal ,” said Cayetano.
Another condition for cancelling Phase IV trial is the issuance of a certification from the Food and Drug Authority and the Health Technology Assessment Council that minimum standards for distribution have been met by the importers or distributors of the new products.
