The House Committee on Foreign Affairs approved on Monday an unnumbered substitute bill declaring the maritime zones under the jurisdiction of the Republic of the Philippines.
The panel, chaired by Pangasinan Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas, expeditiously passed the measure, which was already approved on third and final reading in the 18th Congress, through Section 48 of the House Rules. House Rule 10, Section 48 authorizes the committees to dispose of priority measures already filed and approved on third reading in the immediately preceding Congress.
The bill declares the maritime zones of the Philippines in order to establish the legal bases by which social, economic, commercial, and other activities may be conducted thereat. The measure also provides a general declaration of the maritime zones under the jurisdiction of the Philippines. The various maritime zones include internal waters, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone , and continental shelf.Cagayan de Oro Rep.
