House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Paul Daza called on the Professional Regulatory Commission and the Commission on Higher Education to review the nursing curriculum and related processes to address the low board passing rate of nurses, among others.

House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Paul Daza on Monday called on the Professional Regulatory Commission and the Commission on Higher Education to review the nursing curriculum and related processes to address the low board passing rate of nurses, among others.

“It seems that this number alone shows a glaring disparity in how nursing schools train future nurses and what the health sector requires—or it could be that even the examination system must be revisited. We need to increase passing rate and find alternative ways of licensing,” he said. Daza said that based on practice, a nursing student is required to undergo an “on-the-job training” program wherein participation expenses are shouldered by the student.

Further, the lawmaker said the government should institute intervention to deepen the motivation of nurses to stay and work in the country, just like the Doctors to the Barrios Program.
