The House of Representatives is dead set on approving this week a bill mandating the conduct of Pooled Baseline Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 testing for the vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, and those immunocompromised who are returning to work.

House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez expressed his commitment to push for the final passage of House Bill No. 6865, the proposed “Crushing COVID-19 Act” to benefit the vulnerable sectors of the society.

HB 6865, principally authored by Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin, aims to reduce COVID-19 mortality through early detection and management, and to slow down the doubling time for the COVID-19 infections in the country. It was approved by the House plenary last Monday. “Not only should PCR testing be made accessible to the vulnerable members of our society. This gold standard of testing should also be made available for free to our essential employees, senior citizens, and those with comorbidities,” Romualdez, co-chairperson of the Defeat COVID-19 Ad Hoc Committee , said.

She said pooled PCR testing should include workers with co-morbidities, pregnant women, health care workers, food handlers, public, market vendors, sales people in groceries and supermarkets, house helpers, salon workers, media people, and factory and construction workers.
