Grandmasters Rogelio Antonio Jr. and Darwin Laylo as well as Grandmaster-elect Daniel Quizon got off to blazing start by winning their first two matches in the 2nd Gov. Henry Oaminal Open Chess Tournament at AYA Hotel and Residences in Clarin, Misamis Occidental on Tuesday.
Antonio defeated Gilbert Baba and Alger Palanas, Laylo subdued Richard Cenas and Drigo Teves and Quizon trounced Edgardo Bariquit and Carlo Saludsod to share the lead with 24 other unbeaten chess players. 'The first two rounds is one of the toughest rounds in any tournament.
In the third round on Wednesday, Antonio will play Julius Ablin, Laylo will take on Mark Lloyd Sy and Quizon will face Michael Jackson Ambuang.Among the players who are still unbeaten in this 9-round tournament are International Masters Michael Concio Jr., Ronald Bancod and Eric Labog Jr. and Fide Masters Roel Abelgas, Alekhine Nouri, David Elorta and Vince Alaan.Earlier, Misamis Occidental Gov.
