As work and classes resume following the extended holiday break, bus terminals, seaports, and airports are bracing for a surge in passenger traffic.
Bus terminals, seaports, and airports anticipate a surge in passenger traffic starting Friday as work and classes resume following the extended holiday break. At Bulan Integrated Terminal in Sorsogon, the number of buses bound for Metro Manila has doubled, with up to 10 buses now serving passengers, a significant increase from regular operations. Further passenger growth is anticipated in the coming days.
In Batangas, Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office (PPA PMO) Batangas port manager Joselito Sinocruz reported 200,000 passengers departed the seaport between December 20th and 31st, while only 32,000 returned from January 1st to 2nd. This disparity suggests a continued influx of passengers until Monday. Sinocruz remarked, “Mula po ngayong araw hanggang sa maagang-maaga po ng Lunes. Iyan po ang inaasahan natin (We expect the number of passengers to peak from today until early morning of Monday.) Meanwhile, Sinocruz disclosed the arrest of a “fixer” at Batangas Port on December 23rd for offering passengers expedited boarding in exchange for money. At Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City, approximately 620,000 additional passengers are expected between Friday and Sunday. Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) head executive assistant Manuel Jeffrey David stated, “Kung ito-total po natin 'yan from December 15 until yesterday, around 2.8 million na po ang nakabiyahe sa ating paliparan (From December 15 until yesterday, around 2.8 million passengers used the airport),” adding, “Yung forecast po natin, moving forward, from today to January 5, we’re still expecting around 620,000 passengers po on an average of 150,000 per day,” he added.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated New
