Inihayag ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez ngayong Lunes na bababa ang presyo ng bigas sa P29 hanggang P34 ang bawat kilo ng bigas sa Agosto. Sa kasalukuyang, umaabot sa P50 per kilo pataas ang presyo ng commercial rice sa Metro Manila.
Ginawa ni Romualdez ang pahayag natapos siyang makipagpulong kay Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement founder at lead convenor Rowena Sadicon. Kasama rin ang co-founder na si Orly Manuntag, at tagapagsalita ng Grain Retailers Confederation of the Philippines .
Ayon kay Romualdez, sa July ay maglalaro sa P45 hanggang P46 per kilo ng well milled rice, at P47 hanggang P48 per kilo ang premium rice, bago maabot ang ideal price na P29 hanggang 34 per kilo sa Agosto. “Then you add our long term programs with the National Irrigation Administration , we are anticipating that NIA could bring to the table P29 per kilo by August. We have budget allocation , government plans are being implemented. Hindi ito drawing,” pagtiyak ni Romualdez.
“Our commitment is that gusto namin makiisa and at the same time, we also appeal to exporting countries not the take advantage of the price para hindi po masayang,” ani Sadicon.
