With play spaces, babycinos and ample pram space, these are some of the best cafes in Brisbane to visit with children.

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time.Only the parents of young kids can truly understand how restorative a nice cup of coffee can be. Even better, a nice cup of coffee and a catch-up with adult humans.Cheryl Randall, founder of the website and social media group“I was going out for a weekly coffee with my mums’ group,” the Morningside parent says.

“It was another instance where I was going to a cafe with a pram and realising, ‘bugger, there’s stairs’ that I decided to start the Instagram page, and then the Facebook group.”Brisbane cafes are increasingly cottoning on to the idea of being child-friendly places, especially on weekdays. For some cafes, it’s as simple as a box of old toys in a corner. For others, it’s a penned-off play area.

“We were actually reviewing babycinos for a while,” Randall says. “I remember one cafe was charging $4 and I nearly had a heart attack.” Kid-friendly cafes are saviours for parents, she says. “It kind of saved my mental health just to get out, and feel semi-normal.”This cafe sits in a side street across from the Cannon Hill Shopping Centre and, as the name suggests, it’s literally someone’s house and carport turned into an indoor-outdoor cafe.Courtyard seating among trees and shrubs is very pleasant in warm weather; coffee is good; and the hot meals offered have Mediterranean and Indian influences.

The big drawcard for parents is tucked around the back: a play area with loads of old toys, well-thumbed kids’ books and a chalk wall for scribbling on. Nab a seat back here and you can keep an eye on your tackers while having a civilised lentil burger or spicy mince.Changing table?
