FORMER Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile on Tuesday took his oath as chief legal counsel of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., Malacañang announced Tuesday.Press Secretary Rose Beatrix 'Trixie' Cruz-Angeles said that Enrile was sworn into office by the President.'President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sworn into office today, July 26, 2022, Juan Valentin F. Ponce Enrile Sr. as Chief of Presidential Legal Counsel,' Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.
Enrile had served the people in various roles for the past 50 years, including interim secretary of finance from 1966 to 1968, secretary of justice from 1968 to 1970 and minister of national defense from 1972 to 1986.When Marcos' father, the late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., declared martial law in the country in 1972, Enrile served as defense minister.He, however, played a key role in the 1986 EDSA Revolution that resulted in the ousting of the elder Marcos.
