JOHN'S, N.L. — The trial of three men charged six years ago with drugs offences finally got underway in St. John’s Thursday, Oct. 6, with the court hearing covertly-recorded conversations and testimony from an undercover RCMP officer involved in them.

They couldn’t agree on a price, she told the court, and there had been some discussion to clarify whether they wanted to buy a pound or a kilogram, the weight conversion and the price difference. “I’m gonna give you a price over the phone and I’m just gonna say that part for the car costs this. And you tell her or anybody else, if you’re happy with it, I’ll bring it over.”While lawyers Jason Edwards and Candace Summers, who are representing Leonard and Curran respectively, had no questions for the witness on cross-examination, Johnson’s lawyer, Mark Gruchy, focused on the officer’s identification — and misidentification — of Johnson in the courtroom.
