NEW YORK, USA – The disgraced Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein on Tuesday, January 10 asked New York’s highest court to overturn his 2020 rape and sexual assault conviction, saying the Manhattan trial judge succumbed to inertia created by the #MeToo movement.
The lawyers said a series of errors by the judge, including letting four women testify about alleged conduct for which Weinstein was not charged, undermined the presumption their client was innocent. “A defendant cannot be tried based on his character – but must be tried based on the conduct for which he has been accused,” Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala said in a statement.
