Harry Potter star Sir Michael Gambon has died aged 82.
The actor, known for his portrayal of Dumbledore in the movies based on J. K. Rowling's famous fantasy series, passed away peacefully in hospital surrounded by family.
Gambon's publicist Clair Dobbs confirmed the news in a statement on behalf of the 82-year-old's wife Lady Anne and son Fergus. “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon," the family said in a statement. “Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.
“We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”
