'Hanna' likely to become typhoon, won't directly affect PH, but will enhance 'habagat'

SEVERE Tropical Storm 'Hanna' will likely intensify into a typhoon within 36 hours but will not directly affect the country, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said Hanna was estimated at 1, 225 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon while moving west-northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour .It has maximum sustained winds of 95kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115kph, Pagasa said in a 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin.

'However, Hanna and Super Typhoon 'Goring' which is already outside PAR, will both enhance the southwest monsoon or 'habagat' which will bring rain in most parts of the country until over the weekend,' he said.Habagat will also continue to bring gusty conditions over areas, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds, the state weather bureau said.
