The Philippine government cannot compel China to agree to have a third party investigate the Recto Bank incident where a Filipino fishing vessel got sunk after being rammed by a Chinese vessel, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra admitted Tuesday.
“We cannot compel China to agree to a preferred third party,” the Secretary told reporters during a press conference. In the event there are disagreements in the findings, Guevarra believes theatManila and Beijing should “sort it out” and “continue to negotiate until a consensus is arrived.”
Malacañang earlier said that China has rejected having a third party join the probe but remains open with a joint inquiry with the Philippines.
