The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Thursday urged Filipino consumers to patronize fish in the market that are caught by Filipino fishermen and avoid buying imported fish.

“There are many fishes in the local market that have the same nutrient benefits and are more affordable. Why is the government so fixated on flooding our local market with imported fish products that are inferior in quality being frozen, at the expense of our local fishers and the public health of consumers?” Ronnel Arambulo, the group’s national spokesperson, said in a news statement.

The fishers’ group warned that imported fish, which are frozen and inferior in quality, might also pose health risks to consumers.from China have a two-year expiration date.
