'We trust the wisdom of our executive branch to continue the implementation of the CSE program. The more we keep children in the dark, the more they become vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and early pregnancies,' the group said in a statement.'Studies have shown that CSE encourages young people to choose to delay their sexual initiation, not the other way around, as they are now equipped with information to make responsible decisions. To scrap the program puts our children at further risk,' it added.CRN said teachers who would implement the program need support, including training, materials, and resources.The teachers, it added, should not be trapped in discussions driven by fears of what could happen but rather focus on the realities on the ground.Teen pregnancy is not naturally going down in the Philippines, the group said, noting a significant increase in the number of births by the 10-14 age group, which were often impregnated by men much older than them, an indication of a sexual abuse dimension.Efforts of government agencies, civil society organizations, and development partners have contributed tremendously to improving women's fertility decisions, CRN said.
