MANILA - State forces have killed the grandson of an Abu Sayyaf group leader in the southern Philippine province of Sulu who was allegedly involved in Friday's clash that left 11 soldiers dead, the military said Sunday.
"He was also involved in the encounter with the 21st Infantry Battalion" in Patikul town last Friday, where 11 soldiers died and 14 others were injured, according to Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Joint Task Force Sulu commander. Soldiers conducted pursuit operations against them after being fired upon by the ASG members, the military statement added.
