Tropical Depression Goring has intensified into a tropical storm as it continues to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea, weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.
As of 5 p.m., PAGASA said Goring was last seen 265 kilometers east of Basco Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.
From data released by PAGASA, the tropical storm continues to intensify while slowing its movements from 15 kilometers per hour at 11 a.m. to 10 kilometers per hour in the recent bulletin. While no tropical cyclone wind signals have been issued by the local weather bureau, Goring is forecast to steadily intensify into a severe tropical storm within the next 36 hours.
The implementation of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may begin in northern Luzon by Thursday night or Friday Morning in anticipation of the onset of the cyclone’s winds, PAGASA said. Meanwhile PAGASA said the storm may enhance the Southwest Monsoon beginning on late Saturday or Saturday and may bring possible rains over the western portions of Luzon.Earlier in the day, PAGASA said Goring"While current intensity forecast indicate the progression towards typhoon category, the inherent volatility of attaining super typhoon category remains a possibility,” PAGASA said in its 11 a.m.
