Going the wrong way on right-of-way issues
THE Metro Rail Transit Line 7 , a project of the San Miguel Corp. being built northward to Bulacan from Quezon City, had been, until last week, one of the more visibly successful major transport infrastructure developments in the country. Though the construction process has been long, as one should expect for an almost entirely elevated, 25-kilometer rail line, it has proceeded with admirable steadiness, even avoiding much of the delay that beset other projects due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the resistance of the people in San Jose del Monte to the construction of the MRT-7 in their area, the original plan is effectively dead. According to Secretary Bautista, realigning the last portion of the route, from Lagro in Quezon City northward, will require the project to be resubmitted for the lengthy approval process that begins with the National Economic Development Authority .
