GLOBE Telecom Inc. is focusing its network expansion in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas to bridge the digital divide across the Philippines.

The Ayala-led telco claimed that it was now covering 96.13 percent of the Philippine population or over 106 million people, but around 4.2 million remain outside coverage areas. These are Filipinos who live in remote towns, mountainous regions or places where terrain and other factors have made it difficult to put up digital infrastructure. “There is still much work to be done to bring quality connectivity to every Filipino.

Continuous builds will help raise population coverage, the telco said, adding that every bit of progress means more people gaining access to vital services and opportunities.Globe invested P56.2 billion for capital expenditures last year. Most of it was spent to strengthen the telco’s network: 1,200 new cell sites, upgrading more than 4,600 to LTE and close to 600 new 5G sites.
