TODAY’S EDITORIAL: Glimmer of hope in ending Ukraine war
ADDRESSING members of the United States Congress, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday made an impassioned appeal to US President Joe Biden to help defend his country against Russian aggression.'It's not enough to be the leader of the nation. Today it takes to be the leader of the world,' Zelenskyy reminded Biden. 'Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace. Peace in your country doesn't depend anymore only on you and your people.
' Beijing also called for negotiations to 'set up a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework based on the principle of indivisible security.'Beijing's bland response may have been influenced by a stern warning from the US of 'consequences' if it backs Moscow's war in Ukraine. Washington didn't have to enumerate what those consequences are; Beijing got the message.
