It left him about two kilometres short at the finish line.

“I am more disappointed than angry,” he said, noting he appreciates the volunteers who give of their time to allow such runs to occur. “It’s just really unfortunate that that mistake happened.” It made for an unusual sight at the finish line as people lined the track at Raymond Field at Acadia University to cheer him and other marathon runners on.

Confusion was evident as McNeil crossed the finish line but continued running down the track and out on the sidewalk along Highway 1 in order to finish his 42.2-km marathon.
