An alarming rise in preventable children deaths has prompted the Victorian government to take action to ensure parents' voices are heard and improve communication channels for carers in hospital care across the state.

The Andrews government will help parents voice concerns about their sick children to tackle preventable paediatric deaths across Victoria’s hospitals.

“No one knows a child as well as their parents and we need to do better at listening to parents. This change will strengthen parents' voice in the care of their child,” she said on Monday morning. The new program is a response to a 12 per cent rise in paediatric sentinel events and is being spearheaded by parents who have often been neglected or ignored in the care of their children.
