| A defiant Anthony Albanese will reject calls to defer the Voice to parliament referendum and will appeal to voters to rally behind him to help Indigenous Australians escape disadvantage.

As he plans a six-week national campaign to win over undecided voters, Mr Albanese will say that closing the disadvantage gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is an urgent national priority, and that it will deliver more effective use of public money and help stem the rising rates of suicide, child removals and Indigenous incarceration.
