GIRLS basketball action is back in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 87 program after being shelved for five seasons with National University Nazareth School and Ateneo breaking the ice on Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.Adamson University and University of Santo Tomas were declared co-champions the last time girls’ basketball was played in Season 82 which was shuttered by the Covid—Game 3 of their Finals duel was canceled.

NUNS head coach Camilla Escoto, a former women’s varsity player, is excited with the return of girls hoops. Escoto led NUNS to victories in the National Basketball Training Center and the UAAP girls’ 3×3 last year. “I’m extremely delighted that after a four-year hiatus, our young girls finally have their own tournament to showcase their talents,” Dysangco said. “This tournament is critical in the development of women’s basketball because starting them early gives them a better chance at reaching their fullest potential as athletes.”
