MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra showed no mercy from the get-go, pummeling its listless rival Magnolia side, in a lopsided PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal match to advance to the best-of-five semifinal series on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
With good ball movement characterizing the team's performance, the Gin Kings sped off to a 28-17 start and did not look back on the way to booking their fourth straight semifinal appearance. Ginebra 's consistency has been evident under Tim Cone, having reached the Final Four in eight of the last 10 conferences.More importantly, the league's top crowd drawer remains a power-packed squad whenever it enters the playoffs with a twice-to-beat advantage.
'The Gin Kings were sharp on both ends of the floor, shooting 51 percent from the floor, on the strength of their 31 assists.In contrast, the Hotshots shot just 39 percent, while turning the ball over 21 times, which the Gin Kings converted to 28 points.Scottie Thompson had his usual all-around game, finishing with 11 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and a career-high seven steals.
