Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone is considering a training camp in Doha, Qatar for the team’s preparations for the February window and future tournaments in 2025.
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone revealed that the team is considering a training camp in Doha, Qatar as part of their preparations for the February window and future tournaments in 2025. While nothing is finalized, Cone mentioned that the team is eyeing the first week of February for the camp, potentially playing some friendly matches before their road games against Chinese Taipei on February 20 and New Zealand on February 23.
Cone stated on January 5th after Barangay Ginebra's victory, that there is a possibility of going to Doha before the window for some friendly matches, depending on the schedule. He added that the training camp could take place on February 10th or 11th. Cone and Gilas will have almost two weeks of preparation time, as initially agreed with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and stakeholders when the program was launched last year. The PBA is taking a break during the Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup playoffs to facilitate these preparations. Cone emphasized the importance of this training time for the program, particularly his emphasis on 'cumulative preparations' as a key pillar. He stated that the small windows for the team to be together make each opportunity crucial for their chemistry and ability to compete at a high level
