Cone said the basketball world witnessed how Sotto's presence proved to be a game-changer when Gilas shocked then world No. 6 Latvia, 89-80, in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament in Riga last year, before beating New Zealand, 93-89, in Manila last November in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers 2025.
Prior to his injury, the 7-foot-3 big man compiled averages of 15.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in four games in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers. The American mentor sounded optimistic that Sotto could possibly make it to the first window for the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers this November. 'We heard that he might be back in October or late October and that might be enough time for him to get into the first window,' said Cone.
