GERMANY pulled off all the right plays on both ends of the floor to down Team USA, 113-11, in the semifinals and make their way to the finals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, on Friday night, September 6, 2023 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Down by as much as 12 in the fourth, 96-84, Team USA attempted a daring comeback and pulled to within one, 108-107, after two free-throws from crowd-favorite Austin Reaves. However, Germany was unfazed by the pressure and responded with a huge three-pointer from Andreas Obst to pull ahead by four, 111-107, with just 1:14 remaining.
Team USA was not yet done and cut the deficit to four with a quick dunk by Reaves. The Americans even got the ball back as an offensive foul was called on Bonga for committing an illegal screen on Reaves.
