The gas-line break closed the intersection of Esquimalt and Admirals roads about 12:15 p.m., and drivers were being warned to avoid the area

A gas station was evacuated and some residents were advised to shelter in place after a private contractor struck a natural gas line on Admirals Road Wednesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman said the township is not asking people to evacuate, but some have been advised to stay indoors “out of an abundance of caution.” Esquimalt said its emergency crews were closely monitoring the situation as repair work continues.
